Introduction
PuriFi is operated by PuriFi LLC, a Florida limited liability company and subsidiary of ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC. In these Terms of Service (“Terms”), “PuriFi,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to PuriFi LLC. “You” and “your” refer to you as a purchaser or user of our products and services. These Terms govern your purchase, setup, and use of PuriFi network security devices, firmware, mobile application, customer portal, VPN relay services, and all related online services (collectively, the “Services”). By purchasing, setting up, or using a PuriFi device or any of our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Eligibility
To use the Services, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be at least 13 years of age, or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater.
- If you are under 18 years of age, you must have obtained parental or guardian consent to use the Services. The consenting parent or guardian is responsible for your use of the Services and compliance with these Terms.
- You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction to make a purchase.
- You must have the authority to manage the network on which you install and operate the PuriFi device.
2. Description of Services
PuriFi provides a suite of network security and management features, including:
- DNS ad-blocking and security filtering powered by Pi-hole and third-party blocklists, with configurable presets and content controls.
- VPN remote access via encrypted WireGuard tunnels through PuriFi relay servers, allowing you to securely manage your device and access your home network remotely.
- Device health monitoring providing real-time metrics for your PuriFi device.
- Over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates to keep your device current and secure.
- Device sharing allowing you to grant up to 5 guests VPN-only access to your device.
- Router remote management enabling configuration of supported routers through the PuriFi interface.
- Content controls including SafeSearch enforcement and category-based filtering.
- Mobile application and customer web portal for managing all of the above features.
Features may vary by product tier and may be added, modified, or removed over time. Some features require an active internet connection and communication with PuriFi backend infrastructure.
3. Hardware Ownership and Software License
Hardware
You own the physical PuriFi hardware device you purchase. Title to the hardware and risk of loss transfer to you upon delivery to the shipping address you provide at checkout.
Software
The firmware, mobile application, and all software components of the Services are licensed to you, not sold. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, PuriFi grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the software solely for personal, non-commercial use in connection with your PuriFi device.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the firmware or software, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
- Redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit the software.
- Remove or obscure any proprietary notices or labels on the software.
- Separate the firmware from the PuriFi device and use it on unauthorized hardware.
Open-source components embedded in PuriFi firmware, including Pi-hole (EUPL), WireGuard (GPL v2), and dnsmasq (GPL), are subject to their respective open-source licenses. See Section 14 for details.
Device Transfer
If you transfer your PuriFi device to another person, you must perform a factory reset and release the device from your account before doing so. The new owner must create their own PuriFi account to claim and use the device.
4. Account Terms
You may create only one account per person. You must provide accurate, complete, and current information when creating your account and keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, you must notify us immediately at support@purifi.io.
Account deletion is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Upon account deletion, any PuriFi devices linked to your account become unowned and may be claimed by a new owner following a factory reset.
5. Device Setup, Claiming, and Sharing
Setup and Claiming
PuriFi devices are set up and claimed using a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) pairing process. Your phone must be in physical proximity to the device during initial setup. Each device contains a single-use claim token that links the device to your account. Keep your claim token confidential; sharing it may allow others to claim your device.
Some ownership changes or dispute resolution scenarios may require identity verification through our support team at support@purifi.io. Releasing a device from your account will trigger a factory reset, which requires the device to be online at the time of the request.
Sharing
You may share your PuriFi device with up to 5 guest users. Guests receive VPN-only access and may not view or modify DNS settings, access detailed device statistics, or invite additional guests. Each PuriFi device supports up to 5 VPN client devices in total across all users.
As the device owner, you are responsible for all activity on your device, including activity by guests you have invited. You may revoke guest access at any time through the PuriFi app or customer portal.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the VPN, DNS filtering, or any Services for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- Route illegal traffic through your PuriFi device or PuriFi relay servers.
- Reverse engineer, tamper with, or modify the firmware outside of authorized OTA updates.
- Interfere with the blocklist update mechanism or any other automated service function of the device or backend infrastructure.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to interact with the Services without prior written permission from PuriFi.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute access to the Services.
- Share your account credentials with any other person.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or PuriFi infrastructure.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.
7. DNS Filtering Disclaimers
PuriFi's DNS filtering relies on third-party blocklists, including Hagezi and community-maintained lists. You should be aware of the following limitations:
- Blocklists are updated daily. Domains may be added to or removed from blocklists without prior notice, which may change what is blocked on your network.
- Aggressive blocking settings may inadvertently block legitimate websites or services.
- DNS filtering has inherent technical limitations: it cannot block DNS queries made within apps using hardcoded or encrypted DNS (DoH/DoT), cannot block IPv6-only domains if your network does not support IPv6 filtering, and cannot block ads or trackers served from shared CDN domains where blocking would also break legitimate content.
- Content controls, including SafeSearch enforcement and category filtering, are not infallible and should not be relied upon as the sole method of content restriction.
- When operating in inline router mode, DNS filtering applies a shared policy to all devices on the network. Individual per-device filtering policies are not supported in this mode.
8. Network, Device, and Service Disclaimers
Inline Router Mode
When operating in inline router mode, your PuriFi device routes all network traffic on your local network. In the event of a device failure or software error, internet access may be briefly interrupted. A watchdog process will attempt to restore internet connectivity by bypassing the PuriFi device within approximately 5 minutes.
Sidecar Mode
When operating in sidecar mode, PuriFi provides DNS filtering only and does not route network traffic. In the event of a device failure, your network will automatically roll back to its previous DNS settings within approximately 30 seconds, restoring normal internet connectivity.
VPN Relay
VPN relay connectivity is provided on a best-effort basis and is rate-limited. In the event of a relay outage, active VPN sessions will disconnect immediately. PuriFi relay servers forward encrypted WireGuard packets between your clients and your device. We cannot decrypt, inspect, or log the content of VPN traffic passing through our relay infrastructure.
Router Remote Management
You are solely responsible for any configuration changes you make to your router through the PuriFi remote management feature. PuriFi does not provide automatic rollback for router configuration changes made through this feature.
Service Availability
We do not provide a service level agreement (SLA) for any PuriFi service. DNS filtering operates locally using the last-known blocklist and will continue to function even if the PuriFi backend is offline. However, device registration, OTA firmware updates, device health metrics reporting, VPN relay access, and router remote management all require an active connection to PuriFi backend infrastructure and will not be available during backend outages.
9. Device Telemetry and Health Monitoring
Your PuriFi device reports health and status telemetry to PuriFi servers approximately every 60 seconds. This telemetry includes CPU usage, CPU temperature, memory usage, disk usage, aggregate DNS statistics (as integer counts), and network topology information necessary for VPN and remote management functionality.
Telemetry reporting is required for remote device management features to function and cannot be disabled, except where required by applicable law. If telemetry reporting is blocked (for example, by a network firewall), remote management features including VPN relay access, OTA updates, health monitoring, and router management will not be available. Local DNS filtering will continue to operate.
Device telemetry does not include individual DNS query logs, browsing history, or the content of any network traffic. For full details on what data is collected and how it is used, please see our Privacy Policy.
10. OTA Firmware Updates
PuriFi delivers firmware updates to your device automatically over-the-air (OTA), including security patches and feature updates. You cannot opt out of security-critical updates. Updates may change device behavior, add new features, or remove existing features. In the event an update fails, the device will attempt to automatically roll back to the previous firmware version. OTA updates require approximately 50 MB of free storage on the device SD card.
11. Payment and Purchases
Pricing
PuriFi devices are sold as a one-time purchase with no ongoing subscription fees for standard features. Prices are subject to change, but the price displayed at the time you complete your order is binding. Applicable taxes and VAT will be added to your order total where required by law.
Payment Processing
Payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-compliant third-party payment processor. Your card number is never stored on or transmitted to PuriFi servers. PuriFi retains only the payment token, billing name, and billing address provided by Stripe.
30-Day Return Policy
You may return your PuriFi device within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, provided the device is in working condition. The cost of return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. After 30 days, refunds are available only for defects covered under the hardware warranty described in Section 12.
Crowdfunding and Preorders
If you purchase through a crowdfunding platform or preorder campaign, the terms of that platform apply until the device is delivered to you. The 30-day return policy described above applies from the date of delivery.
Fraud Prevention
PuriFi reserves the right to cancel orders that we reasonably believe to be fraudulent or placed in bad faith. In such cases, any charges will be refunded.
12. Hardware Warranty
PuriFi provides a 12-month limited hardware warranty from the date of delivery.
What Is Covered
The warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship that arise under normal use conditions during the warranty period.
What Is NOT Covered
The warranty does not cover:
- Physical damage, misuse, or unauthorized modifications to the device.
- Damage caused by power surges, water exposure, or extreme environmental conditions.
- Normal wear and tear.
- SD card degradation resulting from normal read/write cycles over time.
- Thermal throttling experienced at elevated ambient temperatures, which is a normal protective function of the device.
Warranty Remedy
For valid warranty claims, PuriFi will, at our discretion, replace the defective device or issue a full refund. Unlike the 30-day return policy (where the customer pays return shipping), PuriFi will provide a prepaid return shipping label for warranty claims. To initiate a warranty claim, contact us at support@purifi.io with your device serial number and order number.
13. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in the Services, including software, firmware, designs, and documentation, are owned by ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC and licensed to PuriFi LLC for use in the Services. “PuriFi” and the PuriFi logo are trademarks of ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you beyond the limited software license described in Section 3.
Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you provide to us regarding the Services may be used by PuriFi and ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC without any obligation or compensation to you.
14. Third-Party Services and Open-Source Software
PuriFi firmware incorporates open-source software, including:
- Pi-hole — licensed under the European Union Public License (EUPL)
- WireGuard — licensed under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPL v2)
- dnsmasq — licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL)
- Other open-source components as disclosed in our open-source notices
These components are subject to their respective open-source licenses, not these Terms. Open-source notices and license texts are available at purifi.io/legal/open-source and may be updated as the software evolves.
DNS blocklists used by PuriFi are provided by third parties and are incorporated without warranty. We make reasonable efforts to use reputable, well-maintained blocklists, but we do not control their content. For a list of third-party service providers used in operating the Services, see our Privacy Policy.
15. Mobile Application
The PuriFi mobile application requests the following device permissions:
- Bluetooth — required for device setup and BLE pairing.
- Camera — used for uploading a profile photo (optional).
- Local Network — used for WiFi network detection during the device setup process.
Some permissions may be declared in the app for planned future features that are not yet active. The PuriFi mobile application is available via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Your download and use of the app is also subject to the terms of the applicable app store. App store operators may collect usage data in accordance with their own privacy policies.
16. Export Compliance
PuriFi devices and firmware incorporate WireGuard and AES-256 encryption technology, which is subject to U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR). You agree not to use, export, or re-export the Services in violation of any applicable U.S. or international export laws and regulations. The Services are not available in countries subject to U.S. government sanctions.
By using the Services, you represent and warrant that you are not located in a U.S.-sanctioned country and are not on any U.S. government restricted-party list. While we do not actively screen every transaction, we reserve the right to terminate accounts or cancel orders upon discovering a violation of this section.
17. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. WE DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT DNS FILTERING WILL BLOCK ALL UNWANTED CONTENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY THIRD-PARTY BLOCKLISTS OR CONTENT CONTROLS.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties. In such jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law. The hardware warranty in Section 12 is a separate, express warranty and is not affected by this section.
18. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PURIFI LLC, ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC, OR THEIR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR NETWORK DISRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR PURIFI DEVICE.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ARISING FROM: INACCURATE OR INCOMPLETE DNS BLOCKLISTS; ROUTER MISCONFIGURATION THROUGH REMOTE MANAGEMENT; HARDWARE FAILURE, INCLUDING SD CARD DEGRADATION; BACKEND SERVICE OUTAGES; VPN RELAY FAILURES; OR NETWORK DISRUPTION IN ANY OPERATING MODE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
19. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PuriFi LLC, ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your violation of these Terms; (b) your unlawful use of the Services; or (c) your negligence or willful misconduct in connection with the Services.
20. Termination
By You
You may delete your account at any time through the Services or by contacting us at support@purifi.io.
By PuriFi
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in illegal activity, or pose a risk to our infrastructure or other users. We will attempt to provide notice before taking such action, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the safety or integrity of the Services.
Effect of Termination
Following account termination, the software license described in Section 3 continues to permit local DNS filtering on the device. All online Services, including VPN relay access, OTA firmware updates, router remote management, and health metrics reporting, will cease. Devices linked to a terminated account become unowned. Sections 13, 17, 18, 19, and 21 of these Terms survive termination.
21. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes not subject to arbitration under this section shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
Binding Arbitration
Except as otherwise provided in this section, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court.
Class Action Waiver
YOU AND PURIFI EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION, CLASS ARBITRATION, OR OTHER REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. All claims must be brought in your individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding.
30-Day Opt-Out
You may opt out of the binding arbitration and class action waiver provisions within 30 days of first agreeing to these Terms by sending an email to support@purifi.io with your name, the email address associated with your account, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration.
Small Claims Court
Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if the claim qualifies within the jurisdictional limits of that court.
Local Law Override
The arbitration agreement in this section does not apply where prohibited by applicable law. If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may also bring claims before your local courts in accordance with applicable consumer protection law, and nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights in those jurisdictions.
22. Service Discontinuation
If PuriFi decides to permanently discontinue the Services, we will provide at least 90 days' advance notice by email to the address associated with your account. Following discontinuation, local DNS filtering will continue to function on your device using the last-downloaded blocklist. Online Services, including VPN relay access, OTA firmware updates, router remote management, and health metrics reporting, will cease at the end of the notice period. We will make reasonable efforts to provide you with an opportunity to export your data before the Services are discontinued.
23. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email to the address associated with your account before the changes take effect. The updated Terms will also be posted on our website with a revised “Last Updated” date.
Your continued use of the Services after a material change becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Services and delete your account.
24. General Provisions
Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and PuriFi with respect to the Services and supersede all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, and understandings.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible, without affecting the enforceability of the remaining provisions.
No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by an authorized representative of PuriFi to be effective.
Assignment. PuriFi may assign these Terms or any of our rights and obligations under them without your consent, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. Any attempted assignment in violation of this provision is void.
Force Majeure. PuriFi shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of government, internet outages, power failures, or pandemics.
Notices. We may send notices to you via email, in-app notifications, or by posting on our website. Notices to PuriFi must be sent to support@purifi.io or to our mailing address listed in Section 25.
