Source code and licences

PuriFi is built on free and open-source software. This page is where you get the source for the parts of it licensed to you under the GNU GPL, and a copy of the tracker data we adapted from someone else’s work. Both are things we owe you, not favours.

Written offer for source code

For a period of three (3) years after the last shipment of this product, ATLANTIKA SYSTEMS LLC offers to any third party, for a charge no more than our cost of physically performing source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code for the GPL- and LGPL-licensed software contained in the device, to be distributed under the terms of those licences.

To request it, email support@purifi.io with the subject line “GPL source code request”, or write to PuriFi LLC, 1100 Biscayne Blvd, Unit 4201, Miami, FL 33132, United States. Please state the product name and firmware version, which you can find in the PuriFi app.

This offer is valid for anyone who receives the notice inside the device, including anyone who obtains a PuriFi second-hand. You do not need to have bought it from us.

Getting the source yourself

You do not have to wait for us. PuriFi does not patch or modify any GPL component — the device runs stock Debian and Raspberry Pi OS packages — so the corresponding source for any of them is the upstream Debian source package at the exact version we shipped. The manifest below lists every one of those versions.

Every package installed on a PuriFi, with its exact version. 1,148 of them carry a GPL or LGPL licence. Fetch any package’s source with apt-get source <package>=<version>, or from snapshot.debian.org, which keeps every historical version permanently.

PuriFi’s own software — the PuriFi agent and the PuriFi DNS engine, purifi-dnsd — is proprietary, is not derived from any GPL work, and is not covered by the offer above.

Tracker and company data

The domain-to-company mapping that lets PuriFi tell you who was behind a blocked request is adapted from the AdGuard Tracker List (companiesdb), licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. We flattened it to a domain→company map, applied PuriFi category overrides, and pruned entries.

Because ShareAlike requires it, our adapted version is published here under the same licence.

Threat and blocklist data

PuriFi redistributes these feeds on the device, unmodified or filtered, with credit as their terms require. They are not part of the source offer above.

  • Emerging Threats — © 2003–2026 Emerging Threats, BSD licence. Incorporates the Spamhaus Project DROP list, used with credit.
  • HaGeZi DNS blocklists — GPL-3.0.

The full, maintained list of open-source projects PuriFi is built on lives on our credits page. On the device itself, every package’s own copyright and licence notice is at /usr/share/doc/<package>/copyright, and the full texts of the common licences are at /usr/share/common-licenses/.
